Upcoming Troop Outings
Since we don't meet again for a couple of weeks, I want to go ahead and notify everyone about the plans for outings through end of May, that were discussed and agreed at the PLC last night.
: Kayaking on the Outer Banks. Plan is to leave early morning, rent kayaks for the afternoon, and camp somewhere on either Shackleford Banks or Cape Lookout, or on the mainland if weather does not cooperate.
: Backpacking on the Appalachian Trail at Roan Mountain. We will finish what we started last summer. Plan is to leave night, camp at a group site somewhere close by, shuttle vehicles in the morning, then hike two days and camp one night. Home by evening, leaving Memorial Day free.
More on both of these at the next meeting, but just want you to get these on your calendars.

Just a reminder that this week is PLC meeting starting at 6:30pm, followed by committee meeting at 7:30pm. All adults are welcome and encouraged to attend the committee meeting.
Also reminding everyone that there is no meeting on March 31, as that is during DPS spring break.
We still do not have an outing or a weekend planned for April. If anyone - especially a SCOUT - has an idea for an overnight activity, please let me know before Tuesday so that we can discuss at the PLC.

Troop News - 3/17/15
First, congratulations to all who completed the backpacking trip this weekend. We managed to get in all the mileage we planned on originally, without encountering a single drop of rain. If you have any troop gear from the outing, please return it on Tuesday, clean and dry.
This week is merit badge class. If you are taking a class, please complete any outstanding homework assignments, and bring your handbooks and worksheets.
For scouts not taking a merit badge class, Mr. Daniels will be giving a drug awareness presentation (a second class requirement).
Next Saturday the troop is volunteering at the Durham Food Bank from 9am-12pm. Please come to the meeting knowing if you can participate in this.
We haven't talked about this as a troop, but next Sunday March 22 at 2:30pm is the Durham CROP Walk (starts at Duke Chapel on West Campus). Please consider coming out to support and raise awareness about hunger around the world. Consider making a donation here.
Troop News - 3/10/15
Thanks to everyone who came out for CPR training last Friday. It was very well attended. I hope none of us ever has to use the training, but this is an excellent example of living the Scout Motto of 'Be Prepared'.
We will continue working through the Cooking merit badge as a troop. The regular meeting will end around 7:50pm. Folks who are going on the outing this weekend in the Uwharrie National Forest will stay until 8:30pm. If you want to go but you did not inform me at the meeting last week, please let me know as soon as possible. Grubmasters are reminded to obtain their food, and bring to the meeting for distribution. Cost for the trip is $10 per camper, please bring payment on Tuesday. Acceptable payment is cash, check, use the troop web site to make a debit payment, or use your scout account.
Even though we do not have regular merit badge classes this week, we will have classes next week, so scouts are reminded to continue working on requirements that you need to do outside of class.
